Q1.Can I get an Emergency Entry Visa (Visa-On-Arrival) at the Airport?
Answer:   With the exception of AU Nationals, Emergency Entry Visa (Visa-On-Arrival) must be applied for and approved by the Comptroller General of Ghana Immigration Service before the traveler embarks on the journey.

Q2.  How do I apply for Emergency Entry Visa (Visa-On-Arrival)?
Answer:  The application must be submitted through the host/company/institution inviting you.        

Q3. Where do I send my application for Emergency Entry Visa (Visa-On- arrival)?
Answer:  The Ghana Immigration Service Headquarters addressed to the Comptroller-General.

Q4. How long will it take to get the Emergency Entry Visa (Visa-On-Arrival)?
Answer:  Maximum of four (4) working days

Q5. What is the mode of payment for the Emergency Entry Visa (Visa-On-Arrival)?
Answer:  Payment is done in Cash (US dollars or its equivalent in Ghana Cedis at an exchange rate determined by the Ghana Immigration Service)

Q6. How long will the Emergency Entry Visa (Visa-On-Arrival) last?
Answer: Maximum thirty (30) days
Q7.  If I am issued with the 30-day Emergency Entry Visa (Visa-On-Arrival) which has not expired, can I use same to re-enter Ghana when I travel out?
Answer: NO, It is a Single Entry Visa and cannot be reused.

Q8. Can I be issued with Multiple Entry Visa at the Airport?
Answer: NO. Multiple entry visas are issued at consulates/embassies/High Commissions outside the country.

Q9. Can I use re-entry visa to enter the country through the Airport?
Answer: Yes. (Should be a valid Re-entry)

Q10. Can I get a Re-Entry Visa at the Airport?
Answer: No

Q11. Where can I get a Re-Entry visa?
Answer: An application should be submitted to the Comptroller General for processing at the Ghana Immigration Service headquarters for either the single/ multiple re-entries.

Q12. How much is the re-entry visa and how long does it last?
Answer:
1. The fee for Single Re-entry Visa is $75 and is valid for 3months         from the date of issue.    
2. The fee for Multiple Re-entry is $150 with a validity period of six (6) months from the date of issue and good for a total of three (3) journeys to Ghana.

Q13. If I am given a Multiple or Single entry visa from the Embassy/Consulate/High Commission, how many days am I entitled to on arrival?

Answer: A maximum of Sixty (60) days for all nationals

 

 

Q1. Do I have to apply in advance when on Transit?
Answer:
 (i) No. if you are a direct air-side transit passenger. This means one has checked luggage(s) directly to the final destination and has onward boarding pass.
  (ii)Yes. If your luggage(s) were not checked directly to your final destination which means one has to pick up luggage(s) to go through check in and departure formalities. In such a case, the passenger pays 50 US dollars or its Cedi equivalent at a rate determined by the Ghana Immigration Service.

 Multiple Citizenship/Dual Citizens
This refers to the situation where a person holds two nationalities. Such a person can possess the passports of those two countries.  Example: Ghana & Britain, Nigeria & America, Liberia & America.

Frequently Asked Questions By Travelers
Q1. As a Ghanaian, can I use my two passports inter-changeably when travelling (arriving or departing)?
Answer: No, passenger must depart with the passport on which he/she arrived on.(Citizenship regulation LI 1690, reg 12(1c) and 12(2)
Q2.  As an Other National with Ghanaian parentage, do I need a visa to enter Ghana if I am not a dual citizen?
Answer: Yes

Q3. As a dual citizen (Ecowas National) with another passport, do I require a visa to enter Ghana?
Answer:
(i.) Yes, if you intend to depart through Ghana with the non-Ecowas passport.
(ii). No: if you wish to travel within the Ecowas sub region with your    Ecowas passport.

Q4. Can I apply for my travel records?

Answer: Yes. An application should be submitted to the Comptroller General to that effect with a fee of 100 Ghana Cedis.
